This project was especially meaningful to our team, as the clients had been longtime friends, making the design process a particularly personal collaboration. We led both the architectural and interior design of the home, allowing the vision to remain cohesive from the overall structure and floor plan through to the smallest interior details. Rooted in a distinctly Scandinavian aesthetic, the home paired clean lines, minimal detailing, and a restrained material palette with an incredible sense of warmth and connection to the outdoors. With multiple builders involved throughout the process, the project required plenty of flexibility and moments of pivoting along the way, but each adjustment ultimately helped shape the home into what it became.
A dramatic, open kitchen, living, and dining space was anchored by a wall of black cabinetry and a dark kitchen island. Cement countertops and backsplash added a raw, tactile quality that balanced the sleekness of the dark millwork. Despite the dramatic material palette, the openness of the space, expansive windows, and incredibly tall ceilings brought in an abundance of natural light, creating the feeling of being suspended among the trees. Above the kitchen, a mezzanine overlooked the main living space and served as a cozy movie room, adding an unexpected layer of function and personality. The finished home struck a thoughtful balance between Scandinavian simplicity and dramatic materials.
