A carefully designed addition transformed this graceful brick Colonial in American University Park, creating a timeless aesthetic which respects the home’s traditional form and detailing while accommodating modern living. The addition allows for a completely renovated and expanded kitchen and sunroom, bathed in natural light and open to new outdoor living spaces and a beautifully landscaped rear garden.
At the second floor, a reconfigured and expanded primary bedroom suite is reoriented to take in views of the garden. A new third floor includes a bedroom and full bath and the refinished basement provides a family recreation room with direct access to the garden terrace in addition to an exercise room, guest suite, and ample storage. Throughout, custom cabinetry and tailored detailing recall the home’s traditional character while large interior openings and strategically placed windows in the addition and adjacent spaces ensure a light filled and vibrant home.
