Old Lawley Toll Vineyard Estate is a wine country retreat transformed from a small weekend cottage into a full-time residence designed for light, volume and relaxed indoor-outdoor living. The renovation and addition wrap the original cottage, giving it an entirely new character, and introducing generous new living spaces that respond to the surrounding vineyard setting.
The additions at the existing cottage retain a more traditional expression, with paned windows and the familiar second story gable as the constant touch point. In contrast, the new addition brings a more contemporary outlook, using large glazed openings to frame views, draw natural light into the home and create a stronger connection to the landscape. Outdoor living was central to the brief, with exterior spaces designed to feel as generous and considered as the interiors. Tiered decks set a backdrop to the new pool that also engages the panoramic view.
As a wine country retreat, the home balances old and new through a shared material palette of stone, metal and board and batten siding. These elements give the estate a fresh yet classic character, suited to full-time living while still holding onto the ease of a weekend escape. The result is a renovation and addition that feels grounded, enduring and deeply connected to the rhythms of vineyard life.
