Mesa Modern

Located in the Mesa neighborhood of Palm Springs, the Mesa Modern project establishes a strong architectural landscape framework that responds directly to its dramatic desert setting. The design extends the home outward through a series of structured gardens organized along a central axis, applying the firm’s site architecture approach to a flat desert site rather than a hillside one. A 50-foot linear pool anchors the composition, aligned to frame views of the San Jacinto Mountains. Flanked by palms and defined by garden walls, this central feature creates a strong visual corridor that connects the architecture to its surroundings. Throughout the site, sculptural walls and integrated artworks play against the silhouettes of desert planting, the shifting shadows lending the composition a quiet, theatrical drama.  The landscape is organized into multiple distinct garden zones, including an outdoor kitchen, generous seating areas, a fire pit, and a bocce court. Each offers a unique experience while maintaining a cohesive overall composition. These spaces are designed tobe discovered gradually, reinforcing the sense of movement and exploration across the site.  Material selections and planting are informed by the interior design, creating a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor environments. Large openings and pivot doors allow the home to flow directly into the landscape, emphasizing the desert lifestyle. The result is a landscape that balances precision and openness, creating a refined yet immersive environment that fully engages its setting.
