Mercer Island light moves fast and changes character throughout the day. Morning light off the water arrives early and low; later, mountain views to the east shift the mood of a room entirely. Getting this right isn't a matter of style — it's part of the process: asking which rooms deserve the view most, and which moments of light are worth designing an entire space around, before a single wall comes down.

This project's clients were empty nesters, and the brief was never about downsizing — it was about right-sizing. A primary suite built for daily life. A guest suite that makes visiting family feel genuinely welcome. Former bedrooms reimagined as a studio and a reading room that never existed before. Getting this right meant construction fluency as much as design sensibility — knowing which walls could move, and which couldn't, before the plans were ever drawn.
