Overlook Residence

Overlook is a family house on Lake Travis, outside Austin, built for gathering and connection. The clients wanted a place where everyone could be together, so we designed around those moments: large, open spaces, deep and comfortable seating, durable materials, and warmth throughout. We worked with A Parallel Architecture and Arrowhead Construction on a home that feels generous and easy to live in. The living, kitchen, and dining areas flow together as one open room, with floor-to-ceiling glass that opens to the pool and the lake beyond. White oak floors run throughout, and warm wood ceilings and walnut cladding keep the scale of the architecture feeling intimate. Lounge seating is low, plush, and made to be sunk into. Vintage rugs and textured fabrics add softness and a lived-in quality, and a limestone fireplace anchors the main room. In the kitchen, Taj Mahal counters and natural wood cabinetry are built to handle daily use, and the island seats the family at the center of it all. The dining table is a full-length custom Acacia slab, imported from California, that seats the whole family and gives the room its centerpiece. The primary suite is a quiet retreat above the activity. Sheer drapery softens the glass, and the bath has Matarazzo marble counters, a freestanding tub against a limestone wall, and a window onto the lake. The closet, with light oak cabinetry and oversized pendants, is designed as a room in its own right.
