Every home holds a story, and the Shoal Creek project began with a particularly meaningful one. Our clients purchased the home from a family member, downsizing and relocating to be closer to their daughter's school. They wanted a space that felt both familiar and deeply functional, so we centered the design on restoring the home's mid-century modern character while tailoring it to the rhythms of everyday family life.
Honoring Mid-Century Roots
Located in Austin's Shoal Creek neighborhood, the home carried beautiful architectural bones worth celebrating. We layered the interiors in a warm, soft white to create a cohesive backdrop, then reworked built-ins and millwork throughout to support daily living while preserving the home's original integrity. Custom storage and purposeful design guided every decision.
A Kitchen and Dining Room With Era-Inspired Character
The kitchen was reimagined with materials and cabinetry that reflect the era, balancing nostalgia with the function a busy family needs. In the dining room, we redesigned the cabinetry to align seamlessly with the updated aesthetic, creating a space that feels both gathered and refined.
Bathrooms and the Primary Suite
To better serve the family, we merged two original bathrooms into a single, more functional shared space. Finishes in the stairwell and primary suite were refreshed, bringing a quiet sense of calm to the home's private areas and giving the family rooms that feel restful and complete.
Personal Touches That Tell a Story
What makes Shoal Creek feel truly personal are the details. We integrated the client's love of music, incorporated meaningful artwork, and curated furnishings that complement both new and existing pieces. The result is a home that honors its mid-century roots while feeling livable, personal, and deeply connected to its next chapter.
