Firelane

Nestled along the pristine shores of Lake Michigan, the Firelane house stands as a testament to thoughtful design harmonizing with its natural surroundings. Perched high on a hill and enveloped by the serenity of a dense forest, this residence offers a truly unique living experience. As you wind down the long driveway, the house emerges against the lush backdrop, commanding attention with its composition. Comprising three separate "boxes" with distinct program requirements, this house caters to the diverse needs of its occupants. The primary suite, a sanctuary for the homeowners, provides uninterrupted views of the vast Lake Michigan, connecting the residents with the ever-changing beauty of the water. The great room, separated by a large wood burning fireplace, invites gatherings and relaxation, partially screened by deciduous trees to temper solar heat gain while maintaining a connection to the surroundings. The 4-season room, accessed via an outdoor bridge, serves as an elevated observatory amidst the towering evergreens, allowing residents to immerse themselves in nature's tranquility. Inspired by the surrounding environment, the house's materials reflect a deep connection to nature. Board-formed concrete, wood siding, and a corrugated metal roof create a modern yet warm aesthetic. Designed to accommodate intimate living for the primary owners while expanding gracefully for large family gatherings, the house is also sensitive to the landscape. The floor plan thoughtfully navigates the fragile critical dune area, demonstrating a commitment to environmental preservation while offering a captivating living experience along the shores of Lake Michigan.
