Austin Ranch is a newly constructed Texas ranch designed to feel as though it has always been there. Sited around a manmade lake at the heart of a 200-acre property dotted with pastures and peach groves, the one-story structure was built in partnership with Austin-based builder Cedar & Oak, with a commitment to natural materials and craftsmanship that required working directly alongside masons, plasterers, and finish carpenters to achieve the right finishes.
Sustainably sourced Texas white stone, Venetian plaster, and white oak millwork form the material backbone, each finished differently throughout the home to build a sense of a space that has developed over time. Barn beams salvaged from a 19th-century Pennsylvania structure remain in their original patina on the ceilings, wide-plank white oak floors were lightly stained, and cabinet fronts left unfinished. Sprawling steel-clad windows and French doors run throughout, keeping the landscape a constant presence. Furnishings follow the same logic - simple silhouettes, organic fabrics in neutral tones, and a mix of antique and contemporary pieces, many sourced at Round Top, that prioritize durability alongside character. The result is a home that is refined and considered, but built above all to be lived in.
