Searl Lamaster Howe Architecture + Interiors

The firm specializes in crafting homes that seamlessly blend functionality, sustainability, and aesthetics. It has established itself as a leading creative force with a portfolio spanning tailored primary residences, breathtaking retreats, and distinctive urban dwellings.

SLH’s approach is rooted in a deep understanding of clients’ needs, aspirations, and the unique characteristics of each context. Every commission is a fresh opportunity to create spaces that not only reflect the clients but also harmonize with the surrounding environment. This client-centric ethos ensures that each project is a true reflection of our clients’ lifestyles and personalities, resulting in spaces that are as functional as they are beautiful. While based in Chicago, SLH’s recent work includes projects as far-flung as Utah, the Great Smoky Mountains, London, and the West Indies. Regardless of the locale, SLH prides itself for its hands-on approach to every project.

Successful design is dependent on a trusting and open client–designer relationship. The highest compliment the SLH crew can hear is that we were grade-A listeners and interpreters. The studio is a diverse group of talented architects and designers who bring passion, expertise, and distinct perspectives to each project. Every voice at the table is heard and valued.

Accolades and media coverage are not driving forces for SLH. That said, such measures can be reassuring to prospective clients brave enough to take the leap into a fully custom project. In that regard, SLH’s projects have been graced with repeated local, national, and global awards. In addition, SLH has been recognized by design arbiters including Architectural Digest, Dwell, Elle Décor, Residential Design, Luxe Media, The New York Times, and Architect Magazine.
