100 lineal metres of heavy-duty Finline postless balustrade, engineered to meet Ministry of Education guidelines across balconies, stairwells, and external walkways. The building holds six classrooms on the ground floor and six on the top floor, with external stairwells on two sides, a large first-floor balcony, and a smaller rear balcony with a sink for washing paint brushes and equipment. Every one of these areas needed balustrade that met Ministry of Education safety requirements. Working with UNEX, GHD Woodhead specified Finline postless balustrade throughout. Custom vertical 60 x 16mm aluminium fins were fixed along a channel system for both the balustrades and stairs, with an interlinking side rail fixed off the fins at the stairs. The channel system was side-fixed to steel PFC using M8 bolts through aluminium cylindrical spacers. The support on this project led GHD Woodhead to specify UNEX again on a separate school build. As Petar from GHD Woodhead put it, "when we had a problem, their main engineer and owner would come."
