THE SHAY CULVER CITY

The Shay Hotel, as designed by STUDIO COLLECTIVE, lies at the intersection of the East & West sides, old-school and new school thinking, and a key stop along LA’s flourishing metro, will be the catalyst for Culver City’s re-emergence as a creative community. Inspired by the Artist’s live/work lifestyle, their honest loft spaces and the nearby galleries, this property looks to especially serve both the creative communities near and far, and become a soulful destination for business, entertainment and a comfortable place to lay one’s head. The new ground-up 148-key boutique hotel will actively support locals within the surrounding mixed-use development and as a much needed hotel destination for both business travelers and adventure seekers coming to LA. Fronting Washington Blvd. and anchoring its Southeast corner adjacent to the newly minted Culver City station, The Shay hotel looks to provide an approachable, relaxed series of engaging public spaces that provides refuge for the many locals moving to and from the metro station, the nearby residences and the Hotel itself. Design-wise, STUDIO COLLECTIVE created an expansive open plan lobby, featuring a “relaxed urban” interior, which draws from an eclectic set of local influences and features high and low artwork from several local Culver City and LA artists. The aesthetic will be layered, textured, natural and tactile yet visually stunning. The design will be quirky, fun and casual with a mix of old and new, sort of like the coolest garage in the world, complete with some vibey technological installations. Thoughtfully crafted details like hand sculpted door pulls, leather‐wrapped handrails, and honest materials like native hardwoods, handmade ceramics and patina’d metals provide just the right amount of texture and warmth for the hotel’s guests and neighbors. Ultimately, STUDIO COLLECTIVE, strived to create a comfortably loose, modern and somewhat intimate house party experience for The Shay Hotel; a relaxed loft filled with beautiful local art, unique programming, good friends returning from near & far, and consistently good food and drink that’s not fussy. This all set within a space that lets you be yourself, and let your hair down. Like Los Angeles itself, a place that’s not too serious or provincial, but leads with its creative energy and fresh thinking, and leaves you always wanting more of it.
