Under the design guide of [Studio Collective], as directed by Brent Bolthouse, THE BUNGALOW looks to unveil itself as a new paradigm in romantic socializing and creative meeting space for the West Side of Los Angeles. The historic bungalow fronts the ocean-side cliffs of sunny Santa Monica, occupying lushly landscaped grounds under the canopy of an enormous, century old Fig tree. Uniquely positioned at The Fairmont Miramar Hotel at the corner of Ocean Avenue “where Wilshire Blvd. meets the Sea”, the newly renovated bungalow and surrounding gardens provide a variety of stylish meeting spaces, indoors and out, complimented by superior service, refreshing cocktails and lite-fare, all in a sophisticated, yet comfortable setting.

Upon arrival, guests are ushered from a quaint canopy along a meandering stone pathway, through lush plantings and below twinkling lights from above; which ultimately leads to the entry porch of THE BUNGALOW. Once inside the entry foyer, guests will be transported to a truly special place: a Southern California, beachside experience with a sense of warmth and comfort created by the roaring fireplace and further through the time-worn materials such as hand-trawled plaster walls, rustic beams, and bespoke furnishings and textured upholstery. A muted yet graphic floor of decorative cement tiles lay underfoot, as one senses the glow and energy of the main bar and lounge off in the distance. Leading to the more private side of THE BUNGALOW is a dining room set up for intimate dinner parties and smaller meetings. Here, three decorative iron chandeliers float above a marvelous hand-crafted solid oak dining table, surrounded by cozy white director’s chairs, all bathed in a white-washed color palette. Large French doors lead off to a private garden oasis, complete with a brick patio anchoring cozy seating around a glowing fire-pit. Nearby, clefted flagstone and moss lead to a quiet sitting area where fountains and plantings further provide a sense of privacy and relaxation. Next door is a cozy, dark lacquered and wood-clad game room with a custom wooden pool table atop a plush area rug. Table games, decorative mid-1930’s light fixtures, and a playful multi-color cement tiled floor all add to the whimsy of the room. French doors let in the ocean breeze, and lead back down to the entry garden beyond.

Stepping into the main lounge, THE BUNGALOW’s guests will be swept under a soaring white-washed, wood-clad ceiling original to the 1947 Bungalow structure. Wood rafters, a wood-burning stove, and solid oak herringbone floors all add to the main lounge’s warmth and charm. The centerpiece of the space is a beautifully lit and cozy main bar, clad in unique black and white Moroccan tiles and topped with a solid oak top, stained a warm chestnut. The walls throughout are adorned with a range of artwork and photographs showcasing the history of the Bungalow’s property and Santa Monica, as well as highlighting the local Southern California art scene. Adjacent is an intimate salon space, finished in a much richer & darker palette of custom built-in millwork, layers of curated objects and books, and supple furnishings all set aglow from the decorative circular chandelier floating above. Moving outward towards the setting sun and fragrant ocean air, guests will step down to the exterior brick patio, set amongst a variety of lush plantings, which holds a petit, hand-crafted outdoor fireplace, complete with small furniture groupings for lounging and smoking. From here guests step up to a new, expansive aged deck and can flow freely amongst the oak trees, and their glowing lights. Throughout, an eclectic mix of furniture groupings for dining, lounging, and sunning offer guests a variety of places to dine and relax. At the far end a cozy exterior bar area with a green trellis above anchors the deck with a prime area to sip cocktails and watch the sun set over the Pacific. Come winter, the entire deck will be covered in a soft and billowing tent structure to ensure the views and warmth are retained. Looking back at the wood-clad bungalow, glowing pendants and slow moving fan blades pulse from the nearby covered porch, providing yet another intimate collection of comfortable seating groupings to lounge from. Here, protected from the sun but with prime ocean view real-estate, patterned sisal carpets anchor plush sofas filled with pillows and eclectic wooden tea-height tables, all set aglow in candlelight.

Combining the charm and romanticism of a seaside bungalow, with the comfort and casual style of a Baja inspired casita, THE BUNGALOW looks to become a welcomed addition to the burgeoning Venice and Santa Monica creative scene. This new home for social gathering will provide a much needed respite for its family; one where guests and locals alike can experience sweeping ocean views, lush gardens, complimented by the cities best margaritas. A relaxed destination where the artists of Venice & West-Sider’s alike can meet and decompress with the denizens of Hollywood, Malibu and beyond…
