Located along a pristine stretch of beach overlooking Banderas Bay in the Pacific, The Restaurant at Susurros del Corazon takes inspiration both from the incredible site where it is situated as well as the local traditions of Mexican craftsmanship and artistry prevalent in nearby communities. Although built from the ground up, the design of the restaurant is intended to evoke the feeling that it has always been here and has gradually aged over time. Sun drenched materials show a refined patina and signs of the human hand pay homage to those that helped to create such a space.
Separated into two distinct spaces, the entire restaurant is nestled into the adjacent beachside landscape, leaving behind a light footprint and elegantly terraced down to the beach to provide optimal ocean views. On one side, a lush, exterior space features a walk up taco stand, a hand troweled fireplace and a large bar perfect for sunset cocktails. A palate of rustic woods and locally sourced stones form a simple, yet textural environment. Enclosed by a series of Guayabillo posts and anchored around two overgrown Papelillo trees adorned with hanging lanterns, the “Taco Shack” provides the perfect, relaxed and casual spot, whether you are coming up from the beach in your flip flops for some pastor or stopping off for a mezcal before dinner. Groups of deep and plush sofas sit atop overlapping, hand weaved carpets offer up the ideal seating option for larger parties while custom rope swings attached to an overhead wood trellis are situated for the perfect sunset views. Stepping down towards the beach, banquettes built-in to a rock retaining wall offer additional ocean facing vistas while a fire pit affords a warm, post sunset glow to keep the good times going after sundown.
Next door to the “Taco Shack”, the main restaurant for the property seeks inspiration from the same local traditions as its neighbor, however is finished in a more refined palate. A combination of dark flagstone, raked plaster and aged wood beams form a sophisticated dining room which entirely opens up to the beachside deck through a series of sliding doors, blurring the line between interior and exterior. A private dining room is clad in lava stone and opens up to its own private courtyard, providing the perfect setting for that special occasion. Dining tables on the exterior deck are situated to optimize beach views and are protected overhead by a dense wood trellis which offers shade during the daytime hours. Much like the Taco Shack, the main restaurant takes advantage of the terraced steps leading down to the beach to offer additional dining options ideal both for sharing meals as well as post dinner drinks. Both sides combine to offer what will undoubtedly become the premiere dining experience in the entire Punta de Mita peninsula and one that will be hard to match in all of Mexico.
