California vibes, from top to bottom

From the forgotten neighborhood dotting the nearby coastal palisades, to the ongoing evolution of flight from Howard Hughes to LAX to Space-X nearby, to the ever-present California mid-century design aesthetic as realized through Charles & Ray Eames to Nuetra, the reimagined Hotel June nods to its historical surroundings but leaps forward to an exciting future as the West Side’s premiere lifestyle hotel. A place to land for both international nomadic travelers and regional tech savants alike, yet empowered by the local denizens of the west side and their/our lust for the new, the vibrant and the soulful…

Looking West towards the sea from Hotel June lies a coastal zone which runs along the PCH wherein lies the ghosted remains of what was once one of Los Angeles’s most desired oceanfront neighborhoods, “Surfridge Estates,” formerly Palisades Del Rey, remnants of which can be seen behind it’s perimeter of chain-link fences. With the advanced level of the aviation industry and the arrival of LAX in the mid-40s, the surrounding residential community began slowly disappearing over time. Desolate streets, singular palms and random lamp posts remain, eerily marking this forgotten seaside community

The end of World War II brought with it an era of hope, newness and progress. Welton Beckett (The principal architect of our building) envisioned LA as the “city of tomorrow” as he drew inspiration from the booming aviation industry, new movies and pop culture. These factors helped frame his design for nearby LAX which was able to accommodate the new “jet age,” and was promoted as a “gateway to the world”. With faster and more accessible travel, the mid-century modern movement evolved to be a dynamic, colorful and graphic era. In addition to Beckett, locals Charles & Ray Eames, working out of their nearby Venice factory, were important influencers in the evolution of the mid- century modern aesthetic. The use of bold colors and geometric patterns, along with commonplace materials such as plywood and perforated metal, combined with organic textures and the technique of blurring the lines between inside and out, helped propel the mid-century movement. Looking to build on these techniques, Hotel June looks to honor its ever-present architectural past, yet provoke a sense of the new and the dynamic. Offering sublime but technologically smart systems, set within casual yet playful environs, and a value driven boutique experience that provides a relaxed sense of comfort (without sacrificing design or attention to detail) the reimagined Hotel June willoffer amenities desired by our “Creative Class” of travelers and neighborhood locals, and strip away the unnecessary and the expected.
