Fish House, a Hawaiian inspired beachside seafood restaurant, provides guests with a truly unique dining experience unmatched on the island. With a thoughtful design that seeks to connect the interior with the exterior, Fish House gracefully plateaus from the main dining room space, down multiple, terraced decks culminating with an ocean side, “feet in the sand” dining option. The bar is the heart of Fish House’s interior and like the rest of the space, is designed to patina with age. Providing guests with the perfect spot from which to enjoy some of the finest fresh seafood and the perfect accompanying cocktail, the bar features an acid washed zinc bar top with a brass rivet detail, a hand troweled plaster with a custom glazed tile bar face, as well as a stained oak and brushed pewter back bar bottle display. Moving outside, an expansive bleached ipe deck follows the contours of the natural topography resulting in three different levels of seating and ending with a beautiful dining area situated on the beach. A variety of seat and table heights give guests a multitude of options from which to dine and imbibe. The highlight of this final level of seaside seating is a repurposed Hawaiian row boat which has been converted into a new sofa providing patrons with what will undoubtedly be the most romantic table in all of Oahu.

Hawaii’s rich fishing history was a major influence in the design of Fish House. This inspiration reveals itself in various details throughout the project. For example, hand railings throughout the space are wrapped in a thin nautical rope which was inspired by the rope used to bind traditional Hawaiian fishing rafts. Rope is a material used throughout the space and can also be seen in a large custom light fixture hung over the bar which consists of several frosted glass globes suspended from the ceiling in an oversized rope net, similar to the kinds of nets used by Hawaiian fishermen. One final detail is the custom scalloped shaped tile used on the bar face which was crafted to be reminiscent of a fish’s gills. The sum of these and other inspired details is an homage to the significance of fishing in Hawaii’s history, something which provides both physical as well as spiritual sustenance.
