FERRARO’S BAR & RESTAURANT

Perched just above the shoreline of Maui’s pristine Wailea Beach, Ferraro’s at Four Seasons Resort Maui has long been a destination for classic Italian fare. Tasked with breathing some new life into this island mainstay, Studio Collective wanted to offer guests a distinctly approachable design while seamlessly blending in a contemporary elegance with a relaxed, residential feel. One that invites guests to come in and grab a fun, casual lunch after a morning at the beach, but also welcomes them back in the evening for a more intimate and romantic sundown dinner. Additionally, the reimagined design captures the essence of Maui and celebrates the venue’s Hawaiian spirit by carefully curating a palate of natural materials, locally sourced, to harmonize with the property’s lush surroundings and bring a sense of place to this unique dining experience. In its previous iteration, even though Ferraro’s sits on a prominent site tucked between the beach and the hotel’s large swimming pool, it was somewhat secluded and hidden. Our intent was to open it up a bit, connecting it both to its beautiful surroundings as well as to the hotel itself. As guests approach the newly designed entrance just off the adjacent pool area, visually obtrusive hedges have been removed and replaced with lower plantings allowing for clear sightlines into Ferraro’s, providing a warm and inviting entrance. A bulky, ornate railing which previously separated the restaurant from the adjacent pool area has been replaced with custom tiled planters, further adding to the lushness of the space as well as softening the lines between in and out. A custom teak trellis sits above part of the upper dining patio and floats under the existing bar and piazza roof lines, unifying these three distinct areas. Overgrown vines have been planted to creep up and cover the trellis and the addition of various potted plants spread throughout the space both seamlessly connect the covered and uncovered areas of the restaurant as well as heighten the al fresco charm one experiences while dining. Once inside the space, the large three-sided bar welcomes patrons as they enter and has been completely updated with new finishes including a marble bar top and tiled bar face. A custom back bar display with inset bronze mirror perfectly captures reflections of sunsets and the ocean to the west. Plush sofa groupings line the south perimeter of the space, offering views to the pool and providing the ideal location either for a pre or post dinner cocktail. A mix of dining groupings on the upper and lower dining decks are situated to optimize the perfect sunset views and allow for unobstructed stargazing once the sun goes down. Hand crafted ceramic tiles inspired by the colors and textures of Maui's landscapes are used for tabletop insets serving as striking decorative accents. Our vision for Ferraro’s 2.0 embraces the soul of the island, integrating contemporary sophistication with a welcoming, residential charm. The use of locally sourced materials, natural elements, and careful attention to detail ensures that Ferraro's becomes not just a restaurant but a destination. We are excited to bring this vision to life, offering an unforgettable dining experience for Four Seasons Maui guests, where Italian cuisine meets the Aloha spirit.
