Coastal Retreat

Situated at the border of a patch of forest between HWY 1 and the ocean, the Coastal Retreat Home acts as a partition between the two. As one approaches the home from the forest, glimpses of the ocean are visible through framed views, revealing the property’s dramatic seaside location. The exterior appearance and form resembles the local barn-like archetype with a modern touch. The home is a space of both company and solitude. By breaking up the layout into two separate volumes, there is a distinction between the privacy of the bedrooms and the social activity of the living spaces. Every activity in this vacation home has a place to live, enhancing the enjoyment of the tranquil coastal prairie context.
