Art Deco Villa

Citizen Artist was commissioned by a long-standing client to completely reimagine a waterfront residence in one of Miami Beach's most coveted neighborhoods. Entrusted with every aspect of the design from street to water, the studio left its full imprint on the interior architecture, millwork, furnishings, material selection, and exterior landscape and hardscape, with architect Scott Joyce Design and landscape firm Lancescape Miami rounding out the collaborative team. Drawing on the heyday of Miami's Art Déco era through a distinctly contemporary lens, the design is anchored by themes of curvature, balance, and repetition. A motif of archways recurs throughout the home, echoed in millwork and hardware details; nougat-toned terrazzo floors meander through pink plaster halls; and individually color-blocked bedroom and bathroom suites offer distinct yet harmonious experiences. On the exterior, a custom stucco with locally sourced crushed seashell aggregate poetically connects the property to the beaches of Miami itself. The project is further elevated by a curated constellation of art and craft. Londubh Studio executed a 24KT gold-leaf mural seamlessly bridging the primary bedroom's headboard and plastered wall, while new pieces designed by Citizen Artist sit alongside antiques sourced from vintage purveyors in Paris and Florence. Works by Picasso, Warhol, Hirst, Albers, and Sternberg are woven into the interior narrative, and sculptures by Won Lee and Aude Herlédan in bronze and Lavoux marine limestone anchor the exterior. Together, these layered details strike a tone of harmony and tranquility within an otherwise vibrant and dynamic home.
