Fine jewelry is often guarded by glass, lighting, and etiquette. Ben Bridge Jewelers - Westfield Southcenter loosens that posture without diminishing the value of the object. Developed as a 2,832-square-foot prototype for a 100-year-old jewelry brand, the store rethinks buying jewelry as something more open, personal, and conversational while preserving the trust of longtime customers.
SkB began with benchmarking, site tours, visioning, and salons with leadership, customers, potential customers, and design community members to understand how the brand was perceived and what needed to change. The design moves away from the hushed, museum-like jewelry store toward a more relaxed retail environment built around exploration, craft, and relationship-building. A visually permeable storefront allows views deep into the space, while pendant-like vitrines, horseshoe display cases, side-by-side sales displays, workshop tables, a lounge, and seasonal display zones give customers different ways to browse and engage. The prototype established a new design direction for rollout across 48 stores.
Two feature spaces give the store its strongest moments. The Alchemy Lab brings the watchmaker out of the back room and turns repair, setting, and craft into part of the customer experience, with vintage scissor-style lab lights and a custom door made from 300 leather watchbands. The Diamond Bar creates a more social way to shop, with a leather-wrapped drink rail, upholstered casework panels, and peekaboo display cases that invite customers to linger, handle, ask, and discover. An original wooden curio cabinet, featuring a vintage diamond cutter and jewelry, ties the new prototype back to Ben Bridge’s history. The store gives staff more ways to build trust, and gives customers more room to find their own relationship to the piece.
