MAKE Architecture’s design for Beer Belly LBC exemplifies modern elegance infused with inventive spatial storytelling. The project draws inspiration from existing douglas fir wood truss members, transforming them into continuous skeletal forms that emanate from the ceiling, creating a seamless transition between structural expression and interior experience. These sculptural elements serve multiple functions: they act as floating tabletops in the bar area and define intimate customer booths, fostering a warm yet dynamic environment.
The interior features an undulating “blackened” metal-clad bar with sleek, crunched forms that evoke a re-appropriated artifact aesthetic, blending raw materiality with contemporary design. Recognized with the AIA LA Restaurant Design Jury Award, this project exemplifies a thoughtful approach to modern hospitality design, engaging guests through its innovative use of materials and spatial organization while celebrating craftsmanship and architectural artistry.
