Storage

Modular storage furniture can extend a wall arrangement, but check that components are compatible and follow the maker’s assembly and anchoring instructions. Shelving and bookcases need spacing suited to their contents and a stated shelf load limit. Compare the dimensions of storage products with the wall and the items they need to hold. If a project brief uses the term storage king, define the required capacity and footprint before selecting a piece.

For projects in the United States, compare furniture dimensions in inches with the room plan, including space for drawers or doors at full extension. Storage trunks and chests suit items that can be reached from above. A whole-home plan may also include wardrobe storage and a laundry storage cabinet in other rooms. Self storage refers to space outside the home; this Storage category covers living-room furniture.

Only use it as seating if product information says it supports seating. Check the stated weight limit and keep the lid clear when opening it.

Follow the manufacturer’s instructions and use hardware suited to the wall construction. Ask a contractor if you cannot identify the wall material or backing.

Measure the largest items it needs to hold and compare them with the cabinet’s interior dimensions, not just its exterior width.
