Resene Waterborne Woodsman is an exterior wood stain designed to colour timber, while still allowing the natural grain of the timber to show through. It is the perfect way to add colour to new or previously stained timber without losing its natural beauty.

Resene has embraced the current trend towards non-traditional wood stain finishes, now offering a new range of exterior wood stain colours in traditional, limed and bright hues. Choose from Totem Pole red, Embers orange, Rangitoto green or perhaps the more traditional Cedar wood finish.

Stains are transparent, therefore the final finish colour will depend on the nature of the timber being stained. Stains applied to light woods will appear much stronger and brighter in colour than stains applied to dark wood.

As with any finishing project - regardless of the products being used - always go through the entire finishing process using scraps from the project before committing to the colour. Preferred colours can be easily tested on a representative piece of wood using Resene Waterborne Woodsman testpots. You can order Resene Waterborne Woodsman testpots online.

Resene Exterior Wood Stains

The key products in the Resene exterior wood stains, oils and cleaning oils range are:

Resene Waterborne Woodsman penetrating stain for weatherboards and fences, available in a range of colours.
Resene Woodsman Decking Stain, waterborne penetrating stain for decks, available in a range of colours.
Resene Woodsman Wood Oil Stain for those who prefer a more traditional wood oil style finish.
Resene Kwila Timber Stain designed for Kwila and other exotic hardwoods, very popular on decking, furniture and garage doors.
Resene Furniture and Decking Oil, a lightly coloured oil ideal for decks and furniture.
Resene Timber and Furniture Gel, much like a furniture polish but for outside, this is a thick product that can be applied to a variety of small timber substrates much easier than a normal stain.
Resene Timber and Deck Wash, ideal for cleaning down timber surfaces before you paint or stain and on a regular basis to keep them in good condition.

If you’re planning to use a dark stain, choose a Resene CoolColour™ tinted into Resene Waterborne Woodsman, Resene Woodsman, Resene Woodsman Decking Oil Stain or pretinted Resene Timber and Furniture Gel.
