Sumner Surf Life Saving.

Nestled in the dunes of Sumner beach, the new surf club building features three curved roofs over about 300sqm. Most of the building is dedicated to the Sumner Surf Life Saving Club's mission of beach patrols and lifeguarding. It also includes a function space and new public toilets, showers and changing rooms.

Designed by Wilson and Hill Architects, this building creates a great landmark for the town of Sumner. It is now one of the first buildings you come across when entering the town, and hard not to admire. The new building gives the club a fresh start as the original was demolished as a result of the Christchurch earthquakes in 2011.

The curved roof lines mimic waves breaking on the beach and can be easily seen from the surrounding hills. The watch tower (also with a curved roof line) gives a great view of the beach and the water.
