The Lawn transforms a former surface parking lot along San Vicente Boulevard into Brentwood’s new civic garden—a publicly accessible “front lawn” that extends an invitation to the broader community. In collaboration with Montalba Architects, ACLA shaped a setting that encourages visitors to spend the day among gardens, high-end retail, and workplace amenities. Built above a three-level, below-grade parking structure, the landscape employs lightweight soils and raised planters to establish a lush, immersive environment.

A grove of mature California Pepper trees shades the central lawn, which is framed by a layered composition of groundcovers, succulents, and flowering shrubs. Along San Vicente, the streetscape mediates between public visibility and urban intensity, softening noise while framing an intimate, inward-focused commons. A generous breezeway leads to a verdant “hidden garden” at the rear of the property, offering F&B tenants a distinctly sheltered atmosphere. Above, a rooftop terrace garden provides daily respite for office workers.

By reimagining an aging retail development as a vibrant, layered landscape, The Lawn establishes a new green heart for Brentwood.
