Our "Light for All" portfolio consists a series of community-focused urban lighting interventions designed to revitalize underserved neighborhoods throughout San Francisco. Created in collaboration with urban designers, nonprofits, and local organizations, these projects address complex socio-economic challenges by using light to enhance visual environments, improve safety, and restore community dignity. In the Filipino Cultural District, durable lighting fixtures illuminate a 50-foot mural on a low-income housing building, creating a vibrant visual gateway that celebrates local heritage. The Tenderloin "Safe Passageway" proposal utilizes colored light bars mounted on street poles to establish clear, illuminated routes connecting schools, medical services, and housing. Along Jessie Alleyway, strategic facade and architectural lighting highlights ornate cornices while transforming a previously neglected alley into an inviting, art-filled corridor. In another Tenderloin intervention, an overgrown chain-link fence at a troubled intersection was replaced with an illuminated Corten steel structure, providing ambient light that deters illicit activity and supports nearby senior residents. Additionally, temporary light art installations in North Beach aim to activate foot traffic and celebrate the neighborhood's rich cultural history. Across all scale levels, the studio prioritizes glare-free, durable, and artistic lighting solutions that highlight local murals, foliage, and structural details. Rather than relying on harsh traditional floodlighting, the works rely on thoughtful linear and accent fixtures to cultivate a warm, welcoming nocturnal atmosphere. Ultimately, this body of work demonstrates how intentional lighting design can strengthen the social fabric of urban spaces, encourage nighttime mobility, and spark economic renewal for local businesses.
