A Home On The Beach.

When clients who had already worked with us to transform their Park Avenue apartment asked our firm to tackle their beach house in Mantoloking, New Jersey, we were ready to take things in a new direction. Much to our surprise, they didn’t want a beach house that felt like a home on the beach. They loved their city apartment so much that they asked us to design their getaway with a sense of urban sophistication. Ultimately, we aimed to blend the polished perfection and glamour of a city apartment with materials that still felt appropriate for flip-flops–while banishing driftwood, nautical rope and beach glass. In the kitchen, where people tend to congregate during parties, we designed an enormous island wrapped in pillowy forest-green ceramic tile and topped by TKTYPE marble, but paired it with shapely wicker stools. To create a destination bar, we installed wood tambour built-ins below a wall covered in hand-painted blue-green-and-white tiles, and added a games table and vintage chairs upholstered in fruit-patterned fabric below a counterweighted brass pendant lamp. Because after a day of frolicking on the beach, most people just want to keep the fun going.
