Wall Tiles

Large formats reduce the number of grout lines, but wall tiles need a substrate that can support their weight, especially when made from natural stone.

About Wall Tiles products

Ceramic and porcelain wall finishes give a backsplash or shower surround a different character through color and surface texture. A glossy ceramic tile in the range of tiles reflects undercabinet lighting, while matte porcelain produces a quieter surface with less reflected glare. View a sample vertically in the room; its appearance on a horizontal table may differ from the finished installation.

Wall Tiles and Surface Finishes

Mosaic tiles allow a pattern to continue across a narrow backsplash or around a niche, but their many joints become part of the design. Draw the layout from the most visible edge and mark outlets before setting the starting line. An exposed ceramic tile edge also needs a finish: decide between a compatible trim profile and a tile with a finished edge before installation.

Where do designer wall tiles work well?

A patterned or textured tile can define the wall behind a vanity or a kitchen backsplash. Keep a sample beside the countertop and cabinet finish to check how the materials work together.

How should grout color be selected?

Matching grout makes the joints less prominent, while a contrasting color emphasizes the layout. Make a small sample panel with the intended grout rather than judging its color from a printed chart.

What does a shower wall need beneath the tile?

Shower tile needs a suitable waterproofing assembly, including details at corners and plumbing penetrations. Ask the contractor handling work in the United States to identify the applicable ANSI A108 installation requirements, and follow the waterproofing manufacturer's instructions.
