A fixed panel window has glazing set in a frame that does not open. These fixed windows can suit openings where daylight and a view are priorities, without an operable sash. Since the unit does not provide ventilation, plan airflow separately.

Fixed and Picture Windows

A fixed glass window needs to match the opening and the wall assembly. Compare the frame dimensions, glazing and installation requirements before choosing a unit. Picture windows listed here include wood sash replacements for existing openings; check that the replacement frame suits the existing conditions.

What should I check before replacing a fixed window?

Measure the existing opening and compare it with the replacement frame’s installation requirements. Check the frame depth and glazing details before ordering.

Can a fixed window provide ventilation?

No. A fixed window does not open, so plan for ventilation through an operable window or another part of the building.

How does a picture window differ from a fixed window?

Picture window describes a fixed window intended to frame an outdoor view. Confirm the product’s dimensions and frame details against the opening.
