Viking WarmSpan is a warm roof that includes a proprietary steel tray substrate, to make up a complete roof system. WarmSpan consists of a wide-span trapezoidal profile steel tray roof deck that can also form the vapour barrier using a clever sealing and flashing system. (Alternatively, a full self-adhered vapour barrier can be installed on top of the tray). Kingspan’s TR27 Polyisocyanurate (PIR) rigid insulation panels are adhered on top using a proprietary polyurethane adhesive with impressive wind uplift resistance, and the insulation surface is then waterproofed with either of Viking Roofspec’s CodeMark-certified sheet membranes.

Unlike Viking’s general WarmRoof system that is installed on a building’s existing concrete, ply or steel substrate already in-situ (new or old), a Viking WarmSpan system is a prescriptive formula that has been specifically engineered and tested to comfortably exceed New Zealand’s Building Code’s minimum standards. The WarmSpan system has a spanning ability between purlins of up to 3.0m (versus the 400mm centred joists required under a heavy 17mm plywood substrate for a traditional membrane roof). This reduces a building’s overall structural cost without compromising the integrity of the building and delivers increased performance and greater durability.

Components of a Viking WarmSpan system:

  • Viking WarmSpan proprietary steel-tray substrate
  • Viking vapour barrier (two options)
  • Kingspan Polyiso insulation panel (including tapered)
  • Any of Viking’s Codemark-certified sheet membrane systems

Projects include: Hilton Hotel, Neo Apartments, ASB Civic Centre, Dunedin Art Gallery, Ryman Retirement Villages and Richmond Primary School - to name a few.
